Study historical hair design online
The teaching syllabus covers period hair design from 1600 to the present day. The program teaches modern techniques to recreate historical hair designs in a work setting where speed is required, such as film and theatre. Students are introduced to style trends in hair and fashion, giving historical context relevant to their chosen era of study.
Course design
Students on this historical hair styling course learn about the structural elements of period hair design as well as the techniques needed to recreate designs. These techniques include backcombing, curling with tongs, pin curls, grip placement, hair padding, caging, blow-drying, and roller setting. Lessons include styling with accessories as well as the application of colour theory and the relationship between style elements.
This approach trains students to see beyond individual elements in order to create an overall balance of hair and costume in their design. With training based on real-world experience, students develop an understanding of their work in the context of a creative team environment.
Classes are structured based on student interest. Classes are taught online via video feed. There is a maximum of two students on each course (where students form part of a single learning group). The syllabus includes materials for ongoing training and revision.
If you would like to enquire about a class, please contact Jose directly via the contact form on this website. Please include in your message information about the area of interest that you would like to study. You will receive a reply as soon as possible.
